Ania Soul is in transit again...
some have told me this would be a fear defying act for them-spontaneous singing on public transportation...it's not that bad, especially when you wear dark sunglasses ;)

Maurice Carter's Innocence! debuts at the Fringe Festival July 2-July 11

Just imagine...just imagine being at the wrong place at the wrong time...and then being wrongly accused for a crime you did NOT commit and serve time in prison for 29 years! the play Maurice Carter's Innocence, written by Donald Molnar & Alicia Payne, tells the story of a man that has experienced this and Unfortunately this is a true story even for many today. What is beautiful is this play tells the story of a beautiful friendship that develops and the constant hope and endurance that is needed to withstand such a trial and an error of wrongful accusations...I am blessed to have been chosen to be apart of the cast as a chorus member working with some amazing actors. It would be wonderful to see you there and for you to witness a great play! See you there

Single and video release soon...

I am having a blast understanding the process of life as I weave myself through ups and downs...I am reminded that everything is needed for the cycle...it's really all perspective...I am grateful for the people on the journey with me, even though most times I feel like an island...I am not alone....
Looking forward to releasing the single soon and video release...wings take flight sooner than later...thanks to all who are genuinely apart of the journey...

Since this is a two way street, tell me what you are up to...
much luv...

the A.M.Y. Project

HELLOGOODMORNING! as pdiddy says on his tweets that I receive, well every minute...it's been a little over a month since i last posted...I am greatful for all the connections with amazing people young and old that re-affirms this world has alot of beautiful people in it! I recently finished a mentoring year with the A.M.Y. Project (Artists Mentoring Youth) which is a collective of young woman from different backgrounds fusing their talents together, learning life skills and socialization under the leadership of Claire Calnan and Weyni Mengesha. The young woman are paired with an artist mentor within the community which provides creative guidance on their individual stories expressed through different mediums such as spoken word, song and dance and then weaved into a collective piece with the other woman...what an inspiration! I wish I had this as a teen...This year is their 5th year anniversary and they have released a mixtape of which i had the pleasure of droppin some dimes on it and accompanying other alumni artists on it as well...It is a great piece of work and looking forward to future productions of the AMY project movement. stay tuned from photos and music samples from the mixtape...any questions about the project contact: whoisamynow@yahoo.com

Soul Muffins

It's a tradition, a ritual and a way of survival really...I need something quick, easy to grab n' go if  I'm on the run, or just a midnight snack. I usually sing when in the process of folding all the ingredients, which makes the muffins extra rich in energy...really! So for those of you who I know, or don't know that stumbled upon this blog by sheer curiosity, i will be sharing with you my Soul Muffin recipe...Soul is not for me alone so I'm okay with giving away my recipe for gold. Please enjoy and let me know how it turned out. -
Ania Soul Muffins

2 Ripe Bananas
1 cup Almond Milk
1/2 cup oil (olive, sunflower or what u like)
1tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup molasses

2cups Whole Wheat or Spelt Flour
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup cane sugar or 1/2 cup maple syrup (if using maple syrup add it to the wet ingredients above :)
1 tsp baking pwdr
1 tsp baking soda
a dash of salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves
1/2 cup walnuts and raisins or chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees C, and grease muffin sheet that holds twelve muffins. Mix the wet ingredients and then the dry ingredients separately and then combine. With all ingredients combined Mix, not for too long just till the dry ingredients is wet. Spoon the batter into each muffin tin... and bake for 20mins...after that let cool on a cooling rack, enjoy with or without butter. This lasts a few days outside of the fridge in a sealed container. This is usually my midnight snack when i'm playing my guitar or listening to new music.

The Hate & the Quake (Haiti) sent by Ian Kamau

The Hate & the Quake (Haiti)

I was sent the below article by a professor of mine who taught me in a class called Cultures of Resistance when I was at York University.

This issue of Haiti has been bothering me since the quake happened. It makes me upset that people aren't thinking more critically about all the events surrounding the quake, the idea of 'help' and media coverage/perspective. There has been an explosion fundraisers happening and I have been asked to participate in one way or another in at least five of them. I can't in good faith participate if the historical significance of Haiti is not eve considered let alone mentioned and we are asked to "dance for haiti" or "bowl for haiti" with no background on what this tragic event actually means in a historical, political and social context.

Just grey dust everywhere...

It's been only five days and I am still affected regarding the tragic earthquake that happened to our beautiful Haitian people on their island...an earthquake reaching 7.3 on the Richter scale plus two more after shocks both reaching over 5 on the Richter scale has caused many deaths and left many homeless...It's tough to also hear that there are alot of fake organizations out there that see this as an opportunity for capital gain, toying with those who think they are giving to aid those that need it rather than aiding the pocket books of schem-ers...This makes me sad...iTs important to do your research and know where your money is actually going...it is said that 60% of the charity sites formed after Hurricane Katrina were actually fraudulent. Yikes! We have been given views of Haiti, usually in moments of crisis. It's a country, not a disaster. It's a people, a culture. Haiti's culture is far richer and deeper than the way it's been portrayed.
I don't know if charities are safe...I really don't, BUT if you are not able to go to Haiti personally and give a helping hand on the grounds, donate to Yele, the charity Wyclef started...Also check out this article :Earthquakes: Natural or Man-Made from New Dawn Magazine
http://newdawnmagazine.com.au/Articles/Earthquakes_Natural_or_Man_Made.html
Haiti, you are owed reparations, and the myriad of fundraisers that pop up in your name are ignorant to your history, and the so called dominant countries of the world that stole from you because of how rich and beautiful you are. Alot of healing needs to be done right now and it's time to dig deep...real deep.

We love you Haiti, there is not much more you can take and I pray love and support reach you right now, even though you should of had support for a long time now...way before the quake.
